About the client
A premium compression apparel brand selling compression and recovery products to endurance athletes, through retail partners and a growing direct-to-consumer site.
The product had real credibility, but the online store had never invested in organic or AI search. Traffic came almost entirely from people who already knew the brand name. Shoppers searching for running compression socks or a knee sleeve found competitors instead.
The challenge
01
Branded search was carrying the site
There was no blog content earning non-branded clicks. The blog produced 120 clicks in December 2025, all from legacy pages with no keyword targeting, and AI search platforms had nothing structured to cite.
02
Collections were bare product grids
Collection pages for knee pain, calf sleeves and women's compression socks had thin or missing category copy, product meta titles were generic, and no page on the site carried FAQ schema.
03
Core category terms ranked low or off page one
"Compression socks for men" ranked at position 14.6 and "knee compression sleeve" at 8.2, with few clicks against their impressions. Blog, collection and product pages didn't link to each other, so authority stayed scattered.
What we did
Build the content the site was missing, give collection pages something to rank with, connect the two, then add outside authority. Every piece was written to be extractable by AI search as well as Google.
Publish into non-branded demand
Top article: +415% impressions
Nine articles went live in month one, on high-volume questions such as when to wear compression socks, compression for long flights, shin splint recovery and choosing a sock height. Four knee sleeve articles followed in month two. Each carried an FAQ section and links to the matching collections.
Give collections something to rank
Women's socks collection +727% clicks
Underperforming collections got their first keyword-aligned category descriptions and FAQ schema, starting with women's compression socks and calf sleeves. A site-wide pass replaced short, generic product meta titles and descriptions. A custom FAQ field let the team update collection FAQs without a developer.
Link content to revenue pages
Men's sleeves collection +693% revenue
A hub-and-spoke linking structure covered 23+ pages in the first month: articles link to collections, collections to products, products back to articles. Three technical audits cleared missing meta tags, broken links and schema gaps along the way.
Add outside authority
"Compression socks for men" 14.6 to 4.0
More than 50 backlinks from domains with authority scores of 42 to 96 were pointed at specific collection pages. Reddit engagement in running, hiking and health communities added referral traffic and the brand mentions AI platforms draw on.
The outcome
The site now earns non-branded traffic and AI-referred revenue. Each new article extends the internal linking network, and the same sequence is being rolled out to the remaining collections and product lines.
Why it worked
The gap was structural: no content, no category copy and no links between the two. Filling that gap on validated keyword clusters, and making each page readable to AI systems at the same time, grew non-branded and AI-referred demand together while branded clicks fell.
