Platforms: WooCommerce

Best SEO and GEO agency
for WooCommerce brands.

WooCommerce gives you control of the whole store, and WordPress leaves much of its SEO to plugins. What decides who gets recommended is the work on top: a lean index, complete product data, crawlers let in and feeds AI shopping can read. Passionfruit does that part.

How WooCommerce stores get found now

  1. Feeds carry your products into AI shopping

WooCommerce’s agent tools are still rolling out, so today Google for WooCommerce, an OpenAI-spec product feed and crawlable pages carry products into AI answers. Thin titles and missing brands there mean a thin answer.

  2. Buyers ask before they browse

Someone looking for the “best espresso grinder for a small kitchen” now gets a short list from ChatGPT or an AI Overview first. Stores make that list when a page answers the question in plain words, not only with a product grid.

  3. Your host decides which crawlers get in

A self-hosted store sits behind a host, a CDN and security plugins, and any of them can turn away AI search crawlers. Cloudflare blocked AI crawlers by default on many domains added between mid-2025 and September 2026, which can shut out AI search without anyone noticing.

What WooCommerce does for search, and what it leaves to you

WooCommerce runs on WordPress, so most search settings come from WordPress, your theme and your plugins. These are the areas we check on every store: what is built in, and what we add.

URLs

Out of the box

Products sit under /product/, categories under /product-category/ and tags under /product-tag/. All three bases can be changed in Permalinks.

What we add

Slugs that match how people search, and a 301 for every URL we change, since WordPress core has no redirect manager of its own.

Titles and meta descriptions

Out of the box

WordPress core prints no meta description and has no title control beyond the post title, so both depend on an SEO plugin.

What we add

One SEO plugin as the source of truth, with titles and descriptions written for each product and category rather than left to a template.

Canonicals and index bloat

Out of the box

Core sets canonicals on single pages only. Every product tag gets an archive, and ?orderby= and filter parameters create new crawlable URLs.

What we add

Tag archives and parameter URLs kept out of the index and canonicalized to the clean category, so crawlers spend their visits on pages that can rank.

Sitemap

Out of the box

WordPress generates one at /wp-sitemap.xml, and most SEO plugins replace it with their own.

What we add

A check that the sitemap in use lists every product and category that should rank, and leaves out tags, filters and duplicates.

robots.txt and crawl waste

Out of the box

WordPress serves a virtual robots.txt that points to the sitemap. Editing it takes a plugin or a physical file.

What we add

Rules that keep cart, account and action URLs such as add-to-cart links out of the crawl. Google’s crawl team flagged WooCommerce’s add-to-cart URLs as crawl waste and WooCommerce fixed its own, but themes and plugins can still expose them.

Structured data

Out of the box

WooCommerce prints Product and Offer markup and BreadcrumbList. Brand, GTIN, shipping and returns can be missing, and SEO plugins can add a second graph.

What we add

One complete Product graph per page, with brand, GTIN, ratings, shipping and returns merged in, and the duplicate output switched off.

AI crawlers and agents

Out of the box

Bot access is decided by your host, CDN and security plugins, not by WooCommerce. Its own agent tools, including MCP, UCP and ACP support, are still rolling out.

What we add

Crawler access checked in the live robots.txt and server responses, Cloudflare’s AI bot settings included, and the search crawlers you want let in.

Speed and hosting

Out of the box

Speed is set by your host, theme and plugins rather than by WooCommerce, and plugin bloat is a common reason stores fail Core Web Vitals.

What we add

A plugin audit, page and object caching, an image CDN and deferred third-party scripts, aimed at passing Core Web Vitals on mobile.

How AI engines read a WooCommerce store

When an engine answers a question about your products, it pulls from several sources at once. These are the five that matter for a WooCommerce store, and we make them agree.

  1. Your storefront HTML

OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot and other AI search crawlers see only the HTML your server returns. Variation details shown only after a shopper picks options, AJAX filters and reviews loaded by plugins are missing for them. We put what matters in the HTML.

  2. Google’s index

AI Overviews and AI Mode are built on Googlebot’s crawl, so classic WooCommerce SEO still feeds them: one canonical per page, a lean index and fast pages. Blocking Google-Extended does not take you out of them.

  3. Google Merchant Center

Google for WooCommerce syncs your catalog to Merchant Center, which WooCommerce describes as making products visible to Google AI. We fill brand, GTIN and attributes so every product in it is complete.

  4. ChatGPT’s product feed

OpenAI’s feed asks for nine fields for every product, including brand, price and availability. WooCommerce has no built-in setting that sends one, so we build the feed to OpenAI’s spec, submit it where OpenAI accepts merchants and keep it in step with the page.

  5. Reviews and forums off your site

Before naming a store, engines check Reddit, review sites and buying roundups. We follow what is said about yours and work to be included where it counts.

Search problems WooCommerce stores face

The issues we find on almost every WooCommerce store we audit, each with the fix.

  1. 01Tag, sort and filter URLs in the index

Every product tag gets an archive and every ?orderby= or filter combination is a new URL, so the index fills with thin duplicates. We noindex tags and parameter URLs and canonicalize to the clean category.

  2. 02Two Product schemas on one page

WooCommerce outputs one, an SEO plugin adds another, and neither is complete. We keep one graph with brand, GTIN, ratings, shipping and returns, and switch off the other’s Product output.

  3. 03Variation details AI crawlers miss

Each variation’s price and stock appear only after a shopper picks options, so crawlers that skip JavaScript see a price range, not the details. We write variation details into the page text and structured data.

  4. 04Plugin and hosting bloat

Slow shared hosting and a long list of plugins fail Core Web Vitals on mobile. We audit plugins, add page and object caching and an image CDN, and defer third-party scripts.

  5. 05A blocked crawler nobody noticed

Domains added to Cloudflare between mid-2025 and September 2026 can block AI crawlers by default, and its newer settings treat search, agent and training bots differently. A security plugin or firewall can do the same. We test which bots actually get through, at the CDN, firewall and plugin, and open access for the search crawlers you want.

The plugins you run, and where they stop

A typical WooCommerce store runs several of these plugins. They are useful, and each covers one slice of the job.

SEO plugins such as Yoast and Rank Math

Their gap
They fill the gaps WordPress core leaves, from titles and meta descriptions to sitemaps and schema, and some now sell AI visibility reports as an add-on. A report shows where your store stands in AI answers; it does not change it.
Your opening
We track your key products and ship the fixes that move them, on the site and off it.

Google for WooCommerce

Their gap
It syncs your catalog to Google Merchant Center, and a synced feed is only as good as the titles and attributes in it.
Your opening
We rework titles and attributes to match the way shoppers phrase their questions, and make sure the feed and the product page say the same thing.

Review plugins

Their gap
They collect reviews and questions well, but third-party plugins can load them in the browser. That leaves AI crawlers that skip JavaScript with a product page and no reviews.
Your opening
We put reviews in the HTML and merge the ratings into one Product graph.

Caching and performance plugins

Their gap
They cache pages, compress images and defer scripts, the first fixes for a slow store. A fast page still needs the words, schema and crawler access engines look for.
Your opening
We pair the speed work with the content and technical fixes that decide whether a page gets cited.

The WooCommerce program, part by part

Each part of the program is built for how WooCommerce works: WordPress underneath, a stack of plugins, self-hosting and feeds that carry the catalog to AI shopping.

Content

Buying guides and comparisons on your WordPress blog, linked to the categories they support. The blog and the store share one domain, so a guide that gets cited sends its authority, and its readers, straight to the category.

Why WooCommerce brands work with Passionfruit

WooCommerce gives you control of the store, the theme and the server, and with it every SEO decision WordPress leaves open: titles, canonicals, schema, crawl rules and speed. What decides who gets recommended sits across that stack, the feeds and the rest of the web.

Passionfruit Intelligence tracks how your store shows up across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google’s AI answers, which competitors are named, and the pages and sources each answer leans on. Our team then ships the fixes: plugin and theme changes, category copy, schema, feeds and the off-site work engines trust.

We work in your WordPress admin and theme with your team’s access and approval, or hand your developers ready-to-ship changes, and every change is measured against revenue, not just rankings.

What we measure

  • Revenue from organic search and AI referrals, by category
  • Share of AI answers that recommend you for your best sellers
  • Indexed product and category pages versus tag and filter URLs
  • Feed completeness for the fields Google and ChatGPT read

Questions

Is WooCommerce good for SEO?

Yes, with the right setup. WooCommerce runs on WordPress, so you control URLs, plugins and hosting, but core WordPress prints no meta descriptions and sets canonicals on single pages only. A lean index, complete Product schema, crawler access and feeds AI shopping can read are what decide who gets recommended, and that is the work we add.

Why does WooCommerce create so many duplicate pages?

Every product tag gets an archive page, and sort and filter parameters such as ?orderby= create new URLs for the same products. We noindex tag archives and parameter URLs and canonicalize them to the clean category.

Do I need Yoast or Rank Math for WooCommerce SEO?

You need one SEO plugin, since WordPress core prints no meta descriptions. Keep one as the source of truth: WooCommerce already outputs Product markup, and a plugin can add a second graph. Some now sell AI visibility add-ons that report where you stand; Passionfruit pairs that tracking with a team that ships the fixes.

Is Cloudflare blocking AI crawlers from my WooCommerce store?

It can be. Many domains added to Cloudflare between mid-2025 and September 2026 block AI crawlers by default, and its newer settings treat search, agent and training bots differently. Hosts and security plugins can block them too, so we check the live robots.txt and server responses and let in the crawlers you want.

How do I get my WooCommerce products recommended in ChatGPT?

Through pages it can read and a product feed. WooCommerce’s agent tools are still rolling out, so today a product feed built to OpenAI’s spec and pages crawlers can read do the work. We keep both complete and earn the reviews and mentions engines check before they recommend a store.

Why can’t AI crawlers see my variation details?

Each variation’s price and stock appear only after a shopper picks options, so crawlers that skip JavaScript see the price range rather than the details. We write variation details into the page text and structured data.
