About the client
A large, established organic foods brand in India selling ghee, oils, flours and other staples direct to consumers. Its own website is a major sales channel, which makes organic search a core acquisition channel.
The brand was already widely known. The question was whether that awareness was turning into visibility on the non-branded category and recipe searches where new households start, and on the AI surfaces where buyers increasingly compare brands.
The challenge
01
Awareness wasn't turning into discovery
Branded queries were locked down, but the category and recipe queries where new buyers enter the funnel were dominated by marketplaces and generic content sites. The brand wasn't present at the moment of consideration.
02
Product pages served repeat buyers only
Pages were built for customers who already knew the SKU. First-time organic visitors weren't getting the clarity, trust signals or proof points they needed to convert in a single session.
03
AI surfaces had no brand presence
Indian buyers were increasingly using ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity to evaluate ghee, oil and flour brands. The brand had no structured presence there, so it was invisible exactly as purchase decisions formed.
What we did
Defend the branded queries, expand into non-branded category demand, convert first-time visitors on landing, and build a presence on the AI surfaces where buyers now compare brands.
Defend
19 of 19 brand queries at #1
Hardened coverage and on-page signals for every branded query, including product-level variants for ghee and flour. All 19 tracked brand queries held at #1 across consecutive months, with no ranking leakage to competitors at the bottom of the funnel.
Expand
Total impressions +158%
Mapped how Indian households search the category, from the best ghee and peanut butter brands to flour for weight loss and immunity boosters, and built content to rank for those queries. Total organic impressions rose 158% against baseline, roughly 2.6x.
Convert
Rebuilt product and collection pages for first-time organic visitors: the sourcing story, proof points and comparison context, so a new visitor has what they need to buy in one session.
Surface
AI-surface optimization live
Structured the brand for ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews with citable content, schema, an llms.txt file and query-aligned passages on each focus category.
The outcome
Organic search is now the brand's primary acquisition and retention channel in India, holding position without paid support. The next phase extends category coverage and AI-surface presence as Indian search behavior shifts.
Why it worked
Brand strength alone wasn't a search moat. Defending the branded queries kept the base secure, while category coverage, conversion-ready product pages and AI presence reached the buyers who didn't yet know the name. Running those layers together is what turned awareness into revenue.
