About the client
A direct-to-consumer women's fashion brand in the affordable-luxury tier, designing in-house and specializing in occasion and going-out wear: maxi dresses, two-piece sets, resort and vacation collections and event gowns. It is US-based, ships worldwide and also sells through select department stores. Organic search already drove six-figure monthly revenue.
The brand had scale and recognition. Its organic channel produced heavy impression volume with soft revenue conversion, and AI answer engines were an unclaimed channel. The opportunity was to make search revenue-efficient and to own the AI answer for occasion wear before a competitor did. Shoppers increasingly ask an assistant what to wear to a wedding or a vacation dinner, and the first brand named in that answer gets the visit.
The challenge
01
Traffic volume outran revenue
The account carried heavy impression volume, but click-through and revenue per visit lagged. The problem to solve was the quality of each visit, not raw visibility.
02
Split equity and thin pages
Duplicate collection URLs fragmented ranking equity across near-identical slugs, and many product pages lacked meta descriptions and schema. Search authority leaked and click-through stayed low.
03
AI answers were unclaimed
Shoppers increasingly ask ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini for occasion-wear picks. Without structured, citable content, the brand risked being absent from the answer entirely.
What we did
Consolidate split equity, optimize for click-through, structure content for AI answer engines, and point the work at the pages and queries that convert.
Consolidate duplicate URLs
Collection impressions +3,184%
301-redirected duplicate collection URLs onto a single canonical page, concentrating ranking equity that had been split across near-identical slugs. The maxi-dress collection became the largest single click gain in the account.
Optimize for click-through
Priority keyword: position 12.8 to 4
Rewrote meta titles, H1 tags and FAQ content across collection and product pages for relevance and click-through. Click-through on a color-led collection page rose from 1.67% to 3.14% (+88%), and clicks rose even where impressions fell.
Structure for AI answers
Cited across ChatGPT and Perplexity
Deployed ItemList and Collection schema so collection pages qualify for rich results and are eligible for citation by AI answer engines. ChatGPT and Perplexity now name the brand first on all 10 tracked occasion-wear queries.
Prioritize what converts
Total organic revenue +27%
Focused effort on the pages and queries that convert across organic and AI channels, so higher-intent visits turned into revenue. Accessories collection revenue grew 181% after a meta and schema pass. The biggest gain came from non-branded searches: shoppers looking for a dress for an occasion, not for the brand.
The outcome
Organic search is now measured on revenue, and it is growing, while AI answer engines cite the brand first for occasion wear. The work ahead is holding that top citation while turning fewer, better visits into more revenue.
Why it worked
The gains were not a traffic spike. Revenue rose while raw traffic consolidated, because the work optimized for the quality of each visit and for owning the answer: consolidation concentrated ranking equity, better metadata lifted click-through, and structured data made the brand the one AI engines cite.
